Hobo baby

I've had a great weekend here in San Antonio. Friday night I unloaded all of Avelyn's clothes into Kevin's old dresser and threw his clothes on the floor of the closet. He really only kept ugly old t-shirts and mail in those drawers anyway.

Saturday my MIL bought a car seat for her car for Avelyn since she or FIL will be picking her up from daycare once or twice a week. She also bought a crib for Kevin's room so Avelyn won't continue her hobo baby lifestyle of sleeping in the PnP on what seems to be a piece of hard cardboard. It looks so cute all put together and matches the room perfectly. So far Avelyn has slept better at night in the crib but unfortunately has entered a phase over the last week of fighting going to sleep. The last three days she has not taken a nap until sometime between 1:00 and 5:00. It would be great if she went down to one long nap in the middle of the day but so far she's just been fighting, whining, crying, standing in the crib for 30 minutes and then falling asleep for an hour or less. It doesn't lead to a peaceful end of day.

I read in one of my many baby books about kids not knowing how to lay back down when they learn to sit/stand up. It's true in her case. But she is getting SO good at standing! I don't think I've taken a picture yet. I haven't been very good at pictures taking lately. As of last Friday she can pull herself to standing and her balance is improving every day. She is so excited. Today she started waving. I've been trying to teach her "hi" and "bye" associated with a wave but that might take a little longer. For now if you wave to her, about 50% of the time she will sort of wave back. And if she wants you to look at her she's starting to wave at you. It's adorable.

I can't believe I'm leaving her tomorrow! Or that I'm taking her to daycare for the first time tomorrow! I really love the place we found for her and I hope the transition isn't too rough. I plan to go with her for a while in the morning just to introduce her to her teachers and let her get familiar with the place before I go back to Houston. Honestly I am glad that I don't have to be the one to take her for her first real day on Tuesday. I couldn't handle the tears one more time. Kevin has never had to do it before. The kids have to check in to the center before 8:30 and Kevin's mom won't pick her up until sometime after 5 or 6. I'm worried about her but I know she'll be okay. Most of the friends I know whose kids go to daycare said within 1-2 weeks their kids loved going. I hope that's our case too.

Please send lots of virtual hugs and kisses to Avelyn on Tuesday, she will be missing her Momma. Of course I'm pretty sure her Momma will be missing her even more.

Here she is in all her paper towel bib splendor. This is what kids look like who have negligent parents that care enough to hand wash their bibs and then always forget to put them in the diaper bag.

  1. When you write these kinds of blogs, I cry. I know this will be hard, but hope when you get down, that you remember what it is all for. I love you and her! She will adjust. All the years of daycare, and I know... kids just do. They really play it up though (in front of parents.) So remember that, too. She will be fine! You made a sound decision, you got the best daycare available, and it is a short time. Keeping you both in my prayers... and tears!

  2. I have been trying to get SB to use a feedbag for quite some time but it's not taking. I guess at almost 37, he's a bit too old to train. Sigh.

  3. Thinking about you today and tomorrow! Cry it up big time in the car on the way back to Houston. BTW Avelyn's hair is getting so long! :)

  4. Oh, Momma, it will be hard, but it will be okay. It sounds like you have a good set-up in SA for Avelyn. I LOVE the pic by the way, that is so stinkin cute. Love to both of y'all.

  5. She'll be fine, you'll be fine...probably more tears from you than from her. I know it doesn't make it any easier, but for all it's worth we'll be thinking about you, and Claire will be looking forward to more darling, adorable pictures of her monitor-friend Avelyn and seeing how well she's adjusted in no time ( :

  6. You're making this sacrifice for her future. In a little over three months it will be done with.

One of my friends had to go to Iraq for ten months when her baby was under a year old. It was hard but it all worked out. She said that one silver lining was that her husband had no idea how hard her job really was until he had to be the primary carer for the baby. He rubs her feet all the time now.
