Baby crack and other daily woes

What a loooooong week this has been. I haven't had the time or energy to blog so here is a run down of my week....

As previously posted the air went out Sunday night. It's now the following Sunday night and it's still not fixed. I won't go into the boring details because a) you probably don't care and b) I'm too tired and ticked off to think about it. We're still camped out at my grandparents house attempting to evade the heat. Each time I've stepped foot into the apartment, either to pick something up, feed a pet or meet an A/C guy it has ranged between 84 and 92 degrees. Yes that's inside the apartment, thank you.
On the upside, the satellite at the grandparents is working again but unfortunately at some point Avelyn developed a sick obsession with the TV so I don't let Kevin watch it when she's in the room. I don't even have time to watch TV anymore, how did this happen? How can she be three months old and addicted? I swear it's like baby crack. The minute she sees the pretty lights and changing pictures she's mesmerized and there is nothing that will tear her away. New rule - no TV around Avelyn so too bad for anyone who watches her. She is too young to be pacified by the TV. Yes I know there will come a day when I won't think twice about plopping her fat little butt in front of SpongeBob just so she will sit still and let me make dinner but for now she needs quality time with human beings, not a picture box babysitter.

I had a psych test Monday that I aced (thank you L for your fantastic study guide help, I couldn't have done it without you) and have one more quiz tomorrow and a final on Tuesday. I think I will get an 'A' in psych which would be great because I've never gotten an 'A' in the major class the last two semesters. Although I don't know what that says about me that I finally pull an A and it's in psych.... Keep your opinions to yourself.
Kevin got back late Tuesday night. It's always weird when he goes away on a job and it's always weird when he comes back. I've always been a very independent person and I get even more so when I'm on my own. It's hard to lose the routine I've established with Avelyn but I'm trying to remain flexible. It's important he learn to do things on his own with her, without me stepping in or telling him how to do everything. On the other hand, my "rules" have to followed somewhat because it's the only way I can ensure I get everything done I have to do regarding her, school and myself. It's a fine line and we will both have to work hard this year to make it work.

"Hey you, Momma told you to stay!"

My group teaching project went off without a hitch on Wednesday! We taught a group of 6-8 year olds all about germs and the importance of hand washing. It was a lot of fun and I really hope some of them remember what they learned. Only 6 more days until the end of summer semester! Since Kevin had been so far removed from south Texas he was in dire need of some Tex-Mex so we hit Casa Ole for dinner that night... around 5:00. Ah the joys of parenthood.

I have Thursdays off so we planned to do something fun together as a family. Of course, Avelyn is only 3 months old so her attention span is about 3 minutes long so a movie was out. We also live in Houston and it's 248 degrees outside so the zoo was out. Oh wait, Ford FINALLY has the recall cruise control mechanism in stock? The one that WON'T catch on fire and kill us all as we're hurtling down 610? Hmmm. Oh, another A/C guy is supposed to "come take a look" tonight? YAY!

We ended up dropping the car off to have the cruise control reconnected (nearly a year after it was disconnected, thank you crappy Ford) and then hitting the Galleria. I now look forward to the Galleria with Avelyn because we usually start our trip out with a bottle feeding in Nordstrom listening to the piano guy. This day was especially fun. He saw her and started playing nursery rhymes and ended with Over the Rainbow. It was really fun to see her recognize the tunes. She is clearly a baby genius. After that we walked through every kids clothing store and I picked out at least 20 outfits that she absolutely has to have. Seriously. They were super cute and she has now outgrown pretty much everything we own. She will be 4 months old in 8 days and she is too big for most of her 3-6 month old clothes. Sorry baby but Mommy is B-roke. Better hope high waters and crop tops are in this fall.

Friday Kevin and I had planned to get a sitter and for me to finally see The Dark Knight. Unfortunately this whole A/C fiasco ruined our plans. Oh, silly me, I must have plum forgot to tell you that the A/C guy who was coming to "take a look" Thursday evening NEVER SHOWED UP so they were sending someone else on Friday from 3-5 pm.

5:23 pm and no repairman later we called only to find out that he had apparently been here from 3:15 to 4:07. Really? REALLY??? BECAUSE I WAS SITTING HERE IN THE 90 DEGREE HEAT WITH A SWEATY BABY FOR THE LAST 3 HOURS NOT LEAVING THIS ROOM TO EVEN GO TO THE BATHROOM SO THAT I WOULDN'T MISS YOU KNOCKING ON MY DOOR!?*&!^%

"I'm sorry Ma'am, it seems he went to unit 1317 not unit 1314."

Uh, what? Didn't he think it was odd that nobody was home at 1317? Didn't he stop to wonder why someone had called if there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner at 1317? Can anyone tell me why he spent 45 minutes looking at a working A/C and less than 10 minutes looking at ours when he finally got back over to our place at 6:30? Ughhhh. You know, this is supposed to be a perk of renting, I shouldn't be dealing with this. Our landlord should. [Put it in a bubble and blow it away...]
I don't even know what we did yesterday. I vaguely remember working on my psych study guide and playing with Avelyn the rest of the day. She is getting to be so much fun. She is trying so very hard to roll over. I still help her roll all the way because she hasn't yet got the hang of moving that arm out from under her before she plops over on her belly. She can usually stand a minute or two on her tummy and then realizes she's exercising and it hurts and promptly quits. By quits I mean screams. Oh, child of mine. Your apple didn't fall far.

  1. Have you ever had someone say "no comment" in your comments? I kind of want to because I don't know what else to say!

All is well here. We had an adventure today that involved Elisa's little toe and a brick - yea! I will post about it tomorrow.

Hang in there - there is always a light at the end of the tunnel or a new day or whatever.

  2. I laughed... then it wouldn't STOP, it was the funniest "pop in my head" moment in a long time... Look at those fat arms on the baby. It's like, "Where's me spinach?"

LMBO, sorry... I just keep on laughing! She is fatter than her cousins, sorry!

  3. No way! Rebecca Marie and Ryan were waaaay fatter than Avelyn! You should see my friend Cameron's baby pictures... they called her Thunder Thighs. But like she said - the chubby babies turn into the best adults. :)
